Overview

Wahroonga is located approximately 18 km away from Sydney’s CBD. The suburb is known for its large and well-kept gardens, fairytale-like mansions and estates, and its polished aesthetic accompanied by the suburb’s quiet and friendly atmosphere.

Public Transport

Wahroonga’s abundance of Public transport routes during the mornings and late afternoons heading into the evening allows for an easy bus ride to your respective location whether it be Wahroonga Station or any designated bus stop. From Wahroonga station, Town Hall Station is a 41-minute train ride (on the T9) providing commuters with a fast and reliable way of travelling to either work or school.

Population

Wahroonga’s population has had a steady increase since the 2016 census. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics in 2016 Wahroonga’s population was approximately 17,000 people as compared to 18,000 in 2020.

What housing types are dominant in Wahroonga

Wahroonga is known to have large estates which uphold the suburb’s prestige and elegance. However, the introduction of units and smaller housing complexes have started to change the property dynamic of Wahroonga, influencing younger individuals to move to the suburb.

What attracts home buyers and investors to Wahroonga

The suburb’s biggest selling points, which make it attractive to home buyers and investors include its quiet and peaceful streets and the abundance of greenery and trees. Consequently, due to its place in the real estate market, it provides home buyers and investors with a sense of security as it is almost guaranteed that you will get what you are looking for.

Future infrastructure and development

As mentioned previously, the Ku-Ring-Gai Council (which is the respective council that Wahroonga belongs to) has encouraged the development of units and apartment buildings within the suburb. The council has also funded the development of public transport, aiming to make it accessible to every individual. This includes the remapping of Wahroonga village, the extension, and development of Wahroonga station as well as the general improvement of roadways.

Ku-Ring-Gai council is also wanting to upgrade the shopping area on Fox Valley road to replenish and better improve the area for shop owners, operators, and the local community. The council has also begun excavating the Jubes Mountain Bike Track to transform the single track for a safer experience as well as the upgrade the playground at Eldinhope Green in Wahroonga.

What my money can buy

As of 2022, the median house price in Wahroonga is approximately $2,700,000 and $1000 per week to rent. The median price of a unit is approximately $980,000 and $560 per week to rent. Although these prices are seen as quite high, the amount of land and amenities such as a pool and a large garden makes Wahroonga worth the price tag.

Wahroonga has an adequate amount of Cafés, Restaurants, and Bars which are sprinkled throughout the suburb. Its abundance of Cafés and Restaurants which are concentrated in Wahroonga Village provides the community with a calm and friendly atmosphere. Additionally, the odd Bar is often accompanied by a Restaurant while sticking to the elegant and friendly atmosphere of Wahroonga.

Wahroonga Hospitals & Medical Facilities

Although Wahroonga technically has one hospital which is Wahroonga Adventist Hospital, the more common hospital to go to when in need is a short 3-minute drive from Wahroonga village which is Hornsby Hospital. However, the medical facilities in Wahroonga provide its patients with a friendly experience and a caring atmosphere. These include the Wahroonga GP, Heritage Medical Practice, and Fox Valley Medical and Dental Centre.

Wahroonga Sports, Health & Fitness

Wahroonga has many places and organizations which support the fitness of people in the area. From its multiple sporting groups (which branch off to soccer, netball, rugby, hockey, AFL, and basketball) fields and programs (which include yoga, walking/running groups, and swimming), the community of Wahroonga allows for fitness and health to be a part of everyday life. The sporting teams and groups within Wahroonga all have teams that are all-inclusive of boys, girls, men, and women. Some popular sporting teams in Wahroonga include Wahroonga Tigers Rugby Club, Wahroonga FC and Wahroonga Netball club.

Things To Do In Wahroonga

Within the suburb of Wahroonga, a number of parks, trails and recreational activities utilize the greenery and natural resources protected in Wahroonga.

The multiple parks in Wahroonga are always a safe and peaceful environment for children to play. Wahroonga Park in particular is a great place for families to bond on any day due to its location and aesthetic. The park is family-friendly and prompts any family to take the short 1-minute walk to Wahroonga village to grab a bite or drink.

Additionally, the national parks and trails allow people to explore the preserved environment within Wahroonga such as Fraser Park and Cliff Oval. An amazing hiking trail in the Wahroonga area is the Samuel King Loop which is roughly 4.8km in length and is approximately a 1hour and 17-minute walk all around. The hike is classified as easy and lies in the Wahroonga reserve allowing the community to see the preserved nature in Wahroonga

The Wahroonga Food and Wine Festival is held in Wahroonga park. The festival brings the finest wines and foods to Wahroonga Park for the community to enjoy. The food and wine festival also has activities and challenges which are appropriate for children allowing for the whole family to have fun. Wahroonga’s food and wine festival serves as a great place for family and friends to bond and chat the day away while being able to drink and taste some fine wine and food.

The Ku-Ring-Gai council is hosting various events to collectively make the Heritage Festival which aims to celebrate the historic, natural, Indigenous, and cultural heritage of the Ku-Ring-Gai council area. The festival encourages the community of Ku-Ring-Gai to learn and understand the rich sense of history behind the place we live in today. The nineteen events run from the 13th of April up until the 19th of May. Two events are being hosted in Wahroonga.

The first event which will take place on the 24th of April is a journey through time. The contents of the event include a guided tour through the Wahroonga Park area which is accompanied by commentary on the history of Wahroonga. The second event is a tour through the gardens of Mahratta. The tour is planned to be on the 15th of May. The intent of this tour is to display the beautiful architecture and gardens which influenced the Wahroonga gardens and manicured lawns we see in Wahroonga today.
